about

I watch movies made in other countries, then use my second-language superpowers to clumsily write about them.

Udaan - Hey, India, what’s up with all these new profound and socially aware movies? First Rang de Basanti, then Dhobi Ghat, now this? I have to say that this movie instantly earned a spot in my top 5 Hindi movies list. Even though the basic premise isn’t really original [a troubled teenager kicked out of school, meets his abusive father and has to adapt to his lifestyle], the way it emotionally engages you until the very end is astounding. The characters were immense and backed-up by brilliant acting.
And as much as I like Shahrukh Khan running in slo-mo towards some girl in the field to declare his undying love for her-type movies, I’d definitely like to see more films like Udaan in the future.
